TDF in court representing Joanne Walsh

The Democracy Fund lawyers bring a successful application in defence of Joanne Walsh's "Freedom Convoy" criminal charges.

OTTAWA: The Democracy Fund (TDF) continues to represent Joanne Walsh. Ms. Walsh is a 72-year-old grandmother criminally charged for her attendance in Ottawa during the "Freedom Convoy" protest in Ottawa in February 2022.

Ms. Walsh was charged with two counts of mischief and one count of obstructing/resisting a peace officer, for which the Crown is seeking jail time.

On Wednesday, May 17, 2023, TDF lawyers appeared in court to request the dismissal of charges against her or, alternatively, an adjournment of the proceedings due to disclosure-related concerns. The Court agreed with the arguments presented by the TDF lawyers, subsequently vacating the trial and rescheduling it for the end of the year.

The freedom rally in Ottawa began on January 22, 2022, and ended around February 2022; and was organized to protest against the COVID-19 vaccine mandates and public health restrictions.
