Tamara Lich is asking the court to allow her to travel internationally for work.
OTTAWA: A decision from the Ontario Court of Justice is due September 17 at 10:00 a.m. on Ms. Lich's application to vary the conditions of her conditional sentence.
In April 2025, Ms. Lich was found guilty of mischief for her role in the peaceful Freedom Convoy protest in Ottawa; she was found not guilty of intimidation or obstructing police. In October 2025, she received a conditional sentence that included 12 months of house arrest and community service.
Lich is currently appealing her mischief conviction. The Crown is separately appealing both her original conviction and sentence, seeking to overturn her acquittals and secure harsher penalties. The appeal will take place at the Court of Appeal in Toronto in or around Spring 2027.
Since her sentencing, Ms. Lich has received several exemptions from her conditional sentence, including domestic travel for her employment.
In July 2026, Ms. Lich appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice seeking a further variation of her sentencing conditions to permit international travel accommodating her employment obligations.
The application noted that Ms. Lich has not only complied with all required conditions to date, but has also consistently provided her legal counsel, Lawrence Greenspon, with detailed itineraries before domestic travel and would continue to do so if permitted to travel internationally.
Crown prosecutors opposed the application, arguing that granting the exemption would amount to a "blank cheque" for international travel and would diminish the impact of Lich's sentence "to an unacceptable extent."
The Ontario Court of Justice is expected to release its judgment on the application at 10:00 a.m. on September 17, 2026.
