Help the Amish
The Democracy Fund is representing over two dozen members of an Amish community in Ontario that has been fined nearly $300,000 allegedly for not using the government-mandated ArriveCAN app during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Amish adhere to an 18th-century lifestyle, using no electricity, phones, or computers. They could not download the app even if they wanted to do so. Despite this, they were hit with massive fines, and now liens have been placed on their properties. This jeopardizes their ability to transfer farms within families or secure loans to sustain their self-sufficient way of life.
The community, known for its pacifist beliefs and quiet resilience, is now facing the destruction of their livelihoods and violation of their religious freedoms due to government actions that disregard their unique way of life. The Amish need support to stand against these unjust measures threatening the survival of their community.
